The Award of Ambition is a structured award that is open to all Primary 7 pupils in South Ayrshire schools. At Annbank Primary we are proud of our 100% achievement rate in the Award, and delight in seeing the growth in our children, through their participation in the programme. Further details of the award are outlined below:
The Aims
- To support a progressive, balanced programme of informal learning activities in the key transition years of P7 and S1.
- To extend learning beyond the classroom to promote active citizenship.
- To encourage positive lifestyles and interests.
- To develop the link between school and leisure, with young people investing an element of their own time in their learning.
- To encourage young people to see themselves as valued members of their communities.
The Structure
The Award of Ambition is a voluntary scheme where young people, supported by school and home, will opt into the Award. The Award has 5 sections:
SERVICE/COMMUNITY - Encourage young people to be involved in the life of their community, promoting commitment, trust, self esteem, responsibility, active citizenship.
CULTURAL RUCKSACK - Encourage and develop interests in music, reading, arts, life skills. crafts etc.
ENVIRONMENTAL DISCOVERY - To help develop an understanding and appreciation of the environment, and our impact on it. Participants will be encouraged to work as a group.
HEALTHY ACTIVE LIFE - Developing active lifestyles to improve personal fitness and promote healthy living. This may be through activities organised after school or with local clubs/organisations.
PERSONAL STRETCH - This is about a personal challenge in an area of interest. It should be about striving to succeed in this challenge and if possible exceed any goal agreed

Partnership
Parents can help develop the Award of Ambition, by encouraging children to participate, help the school to develop contacts in the community and become directly involved as helping participants.
